Iraqi Security Forces Arrest Political and Economic Figures Over Corruption Allegations
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi media outlets, citing security and informed sources, reported this morning that the country’s security forces have detained a number of Iraqi political and economic personalities as part of investigations into financial and administrative corruption cases within Baghdad’s Green Zone. The security operation was carried out suddenly, under strict measures, and without immediate public disclosure of details.
Media reports indicate that the arrests extend beyond economic figures to include members of the Iraqi Parliament, former officials, and businessmen suspected of involvement in financial corruption cases. Informed sources revealed that the ongoing investigations are being guided by confessions from Adnan Al-Jamilly, a former official in Iraq’s Ministry of Oil, which have opened new avenues in the corruption probes.
Official Iraqi parties have not yet commented on these developments. However, Iraqi media have named some of the detainees, including Muthanna Al-Samarrai, head of the Azm Alliance, and parliamentary representatives Muhammad Al-Karboli and Ziad Al-Janabi. Reports also noted the deployment of military equipment by Iraqi security forces within the Green Zone in Baghdad.
Al-Hadath TV reported that over 10 Iraqi politicians and businessmen were arrested in this operation. Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported that Prime Minister of Iraq Ali Al-Zaidi is overseeing this process. Al-Ain News Agency, quoting informed sources, stated that among the detainees are two representatives from the Imran and Development Coalition, led by Muhammad Shia’ Al-Sudani, named Bahaa Al-Nouri and Alia Nassif, Iraqi businessman Hassan Al-Khafaji, former Prime Minister’s brother Abbas Al-Sudani, former Prime Minister’s secretary Abdul Karim Al-Sudani, and former representative Muhammad Al-Saihoud.
