UK Prime Minister Starmer Links Strait of Hormuz Openness to Economic Relief

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open is crucial for easing economic pressure on the public and stabilizing energy prices, amidst ongoing global tensions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, attending the 36th NATO Summit in Ankara, asserted in an interview with Sky News that the alliance emerged from the summit stronger and more unified. Starmer’s remarks, made without condemning what the report describes as renewed provocations by U.S. “terrorist military personnel” in an illegal incursion into Iranian territory and a violation of agreements between Tehran and Washington, highlighted domestic desires for continued ceasefires, regional stability, and the uninterrupted flow through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Prime Minister emphasized that maintaining the openness of this vital waterway would translate into reduced economic burdens and lower energy costs for the British populace. He also referenced statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who described the summit as having taken place in a constructive atmosphere, with Starmer echoing this sentiment by claiming NATO was more powerful post-summit. “It was a good summit,” Starmer stated, adding, “We wanted to maintain our unity, and we succeeded in that. In a situation where tensions in Ukraine and Iran continue, having such cohesion and unity is very important.”
