Oman Rescues 23 Crew from Damaged Merchant Ship Off Musandam Coast

Oman’s Maritime Security Centre has successfully rescued 23 crew members from a commercial vessel targeted near the Musandam coast, with search operations ongoing for one missing individual.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Oman‘s Maritime Security Centre reported its response to a distress call from a Cyprus-flagged commercial ship that experienced an incident near the coast of Musandam. The centre confirmed that 23 crew members of the targeted merchant vessel have been rescued, and efforts continue to locate one remaining crewman.

Separately, CNN, citing tracking data, indicated a significant decrease in shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz following Iran’s announcement regarding the closure of the strait.

In related developments, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Iranian ambassador was summoned. The ministry conveyed its dissatisfaction and urged Iran to adhere to the principles of national sovereignty and good neighborliness following drone attacks on Musandam and Al Wusta. The Ministry of Transport in Qatar has also advised ship owners and operators to temporarily suspend maritime navigation and activities in the Strait of Hormuz until further notice.
