Iraq and Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Security and Bilateral Ties in Riyadh

Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh on Sunday to discuss enhancing economic cooperation, security coordination, and regional stability, emphasizing mutual respect for sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a meeting with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh on Sunday.

The Saudi Foreign Minister underscored that Iraq’s security is a fundamental component of regional security. He emphasized the importance of preserving the fraternal relations between the two nations and protecting them from harm, particularly concerning the security and stability of both countries.

Bin Farhan reiterated Saudi Arabia’s desire to strengthen joint cooperation and coordination with Iraq. The Iraqi Foreign Minister explained that his country is committed to establishing balanced and distinguished relations with all neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia. He noted that the consequences of recent conflicts have impacted the region and the trajectory of these relations, with Iraq bearing the brunt of direct and indirect repercussions, including attempts to damage ties with fraternal nations.

The foreign ministers of Iraq and Saudi Arabia deliberated on the most pressing priority issues in their bilateral relations. These included enhancing economic cooperation and investment, developing partnerships in the energy sector, and intensifying political and security coordination between the two countries to bolster regional stability and create favorable conditions for strengthening cooperation among the region’s peoples.

Both sides affirmed the significance of strengthening bilateral relations across various domains and continuing consultations and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest. They emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty of nations, adhering to the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in internal affairs, and opposing the use of any country’s territory or airspace to harm the security and stability of other nations.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister reiterated that Iraq will not permit its territory or airspace to be used for attacks against Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, or other regional countries.
