Russia Claims Destruction of 502 Ukrainian Drones
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 502 Ukrainian drones over eight regions of Russia and the waters of the Black Sea during the past night. This announcement was published by the Mehr News Agency, citing Sputnik.
The Russian Ministry of Defense statement also indicated that port infrastructure and ships serving the Ukrainian army were targeted. Additionally, the ministry reported striking a fuel depot in the port of Odesa, which supplied fuel to Ukrainian forces.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, on February 21, 2022, recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region, criticizing the West’s disregard for Moscow’s security concerns. Three days later, on Thursday, February 24, 2022, Putin launched a military operation, which he termed a “special operation,” against Ukraine, escalating the tense Moscow-Kyiv relations into military confrontation.
In response to Russia’s actions, the United States and Western countries have imposed extensive sanctions against Moscow and have sent billions of dollars worth of weaponry and military equipment to Kyiv.
