Iraqi Shia Leader Emphasizes Resistance Weapons’ Role Against ISIS

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, met with Joshua Harris, the acting U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, at his Baghdad office on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim stressed the importance of transforming agreements into executive and practical programs. He also pointed to the nature of the challenges facing Iraq, relying on dialogue to resolve outstanding problems, and stated that economic and liquidity challenges are at the forefront of these issues, stemming from regional developments and escalating tensions.
The head of the National Wisdom Movement further called for confidence in the language of dialogue and mutual understanding as a solution to confine weapons to the state. He emphasized that the weapons of the resistance groups played a role in confronting ISIS, and the resistance offered thousands of martyrs for the liberation of the country’s soil and the restoration of stability.
He noted that these weapons will be handed over to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) as an official and governmental institution, while also highlighting the importance of this process encompassing all those who fall under the category of arms bearers outside the state framework.
