Iraqi Parliament Speaker Vows to Prevent Country’s Involvement in Regional Conflicts

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Hebat Al-Halbousi declared during a ceremony commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that Iraq will not be dragged into conflicts detrimental to its people’s interests, especially amid escalating regional tensions.

Al-Halbousi highlighted the significant sacrifices Iraq has endured due to terrorism, extremism, and division, asserting that the Iraqi people have successfully navigated some of the most challenging crises in their recent history through dedication and unity.

He stressed that the primary responsibility now lies in ensuring a stable transition from crisis management to building a robust state, strengthening governmental institutions, and improving public services for citizens.

The Speaker identified safeguarding Iraq’s religious and ethnic diversity, along with guaranteeing universal rights and freedoms, as intrinsic duties of legal bodies. He emphasized that law and the right to citizenship should form the fundamental basis of the relationship between the populace and the government.

Furthermore, Al-Halbousi underscored the Parliament’s ongoing legislative and oversight role in enacting laws that support social stability and address the daily challenges faced by the public.

Commenting on the sensitive regional situation and recurrent tensions, the Speaker noted that Iraq requires rationality, consensus, and the protection of its national security and sovereignty more than ever. He reiterated the importance of preventing the country from being drawn into disputes that do not serve Iraq’s and its people’s interests.
