Ukraine and Germany Finalize Drone Cooperation Agreement

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Wednesday that Kyiv and Berlin are in the final stages of an agreement for drone cooperation. Zelensky stated after a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that teams from both countries are concluding the text of the agreement, which will provide new defensive capabilities for Germany and Ukraine.

The agreement, initially proposed by Ukraine several months ago, is expected to encompass the joint development of various types of drones, missiles, and associated software. This contract will build upon existing defense collaborations between the two nations.

Germany has previously financed a multi-million Euro program to supply approximately 15,000 “Strela” interceptor drones to Ukraine. These drones are designed to counter “Shahed” type assault drones. Additionally, German company Quantum Systems and Ukrainian company WIY Drones established a joint venture in April aimed at increasing the production of interceptor drones and related air defense technologies.

Zelensky also mentioned that he and Merz discussed new German support for air defense and plans for an in-person meeting.
