EU President Declares New Era of Security Amid Russian Drone Activity

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the European Union must prepare for a ‘new era of European security,’ citing recent Russian drone incidents as a ‘new normal’ that signifies escalating Russian activities within EU territory.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Brussels is bracing for a “new era of European security” as drone incursions attributed to Russia have become a “new normal,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen claimed on Wednesday.

Speaking in Brussels alongside NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, von der Leyen asserted that incidents like the recent Russian drone sabotage in Germany are indicative of escalating Russian activities on EU soil. She characterized the Leipzig incident as a direct attribution to Russia, part of a broader pattern of potentially more dangerous events.

“If this attack had been successful, it would have caused immense damage and likely even loss of life,” von der Leyen stated during a press conference, highlighting the serious implications of such actions.

The European Commission President presented a stark reality to Europeans, emphasizing that the current situation represents a “new normal.” She called for a swifter and more effective response from the European Union to what she described as Russia’s “recklessness.”

Von der Leyen also noted that Europe possesses “rapid response teams” to counter such attacks and reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to impose further sanctions on Russia, adding to existing restrictive measures.
