Former Qatari Premier Urges Direct Arab-Iran Talks for Regional Stability
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar, stressed in a social media post that relations between Iran and Arab countries should be founded on the principle of transforming the Persian Gulf region into an economic zone for everyone’s mutual benefit.
Referring to a meeting held on Monday in Muscat between Iran and the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, Hamad bin Jassim stated, “I wish success for this meeting. I have said it before, and I say it again now, the countries of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council must engage in collective and direct dialogue with Iran to exit the current crisis – a crisis in which we had no role in creating.”
He elaborated, “I hope this meeting will focus on ways to resolve current problems before any proposals are presented. A roadmap concerning our future relations with Iran must be drafted, one that guarantees stability for both sides.”
The former Qatari Prime Minister also claimed that Iran should reopen the Strait of Hormuz as it did before, without collecting tolls, and that Arab countries of the region should not be held hostage by negotiations with the United States.
He made no mention of the United States’ use of the airspace and land territory of the region’s Arab countries against Iran for military aggressions.
Regarding developments in Yemen, Hamad bin Jassim stated that the security of Saudi Arabia is a central issue for all countries in the region.
