Trump, South Korean President Discuss Strategic Projects and Investment
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung engaged in discussions concerning the advancement of strategic projects and bilateral investment during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussions were reported by Yonhap News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the significant progress achieved in implementing a $350 billion investment package. Key topics addressed included South Korea’s nuclear submarines, the rights to uranium enrichment and nuclear fuel reprocessing, the transfer of wartime operational control of South Korean forces, and cooperation within the shipbuilding industry.
President Lee Jae-myung urged President Trump to make efforts toward resuming dialogue between the United States and North Korea. President Trump concurred with this request, noting his positive relationship with Kim Jong-un.
While Washington has been urging Seoul to participate militarily in securing shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, South Korea’s National Security Advisor stated that the Hormuz issue was not raised during this meeting. President Lee had previously rejected the deployment of South Korean combat forces to the region.
