Lavrov Expresses Concern Over Foreign Military-Biological Activities
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a video message to participants of a seminar on the national implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention, expressed apprehension over the military-biological activities of some nations.
Lavrov stated, “The military-biological activities of certain countries outside their national territories, conducted under the guise of cooperation for preventive and other peaceful purposes, raise serious questions regarding adherence to this convention.”
The Russian Foreign Minister added that half a century after the Biological Weapons and Toxin Convention entered into force in 1975, the issue of ensuring biological security continues to maintain its significance.
He identified the transboundary nature of biological threats, the potential misuse of biotechnologies, and the possibility of terrorists employing pathogenic agents and biological toxins as weapons, as some of the factors threatening biological security.
