India Trains 70,000 Engineers to Boost Semiconductor Industry

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, at least 200 chip design companies have been established under India’s “India Semiconductor Mission 2.0,” enhancing the development of indigenous intellectual property in the sector. This initiative is further supported by over 105 chip design startups gaining access to advanced Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, fostering the semiconductor design ecosystem in India.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that India has trained around 70,000 chip design engineers in the last four years and is progressing towards its goal of training 85,000 specialists in this critical field. He also highlighted the nation’s progress in semiconductor manufacturing during the first phase of the “India Semiconductor Mission,” noting that five out of twelve approved fabrication plants have commenced commercial production.

Vaishnaw further explained that India’s strategy in the semiconductor industry emphasizes a balance between quality and competitive costs, while simultaneously strengthening in-house capabilities for intellectual property development. These comprehensive measures are integral to India’s broader ambition to expand its semiconductor design and manufacturing capacity, nurture a skilled engineering workforce, and enhance international technological cooperation.
