Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council Condemns Air Embargo on Iran, Urges Baghdad to Resist

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq has issued a statement condemning the decision to halt flights between Iraq and Iran. The council announced its disapproval of the “oppressive and inhumane embargo” imposed by United States President Donald Trump on Iranian flights.

The Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council emphasized that this blockade contradicts international laws and the Iraqi constitution, particularly Article 8 which underscores the principle of good neighborliness. The council declared it impermissible to participate in a military, economic, or media siege and aggression against Iran, asserting instead that such blockades must be broken.

The organization also called on Iraqi political officials and decision-makers not to succumb to external pressures. Concurrently, Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Baghdad reported that Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, the head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, has requested leaders of the coordinating framework for Shiite groups to hold an emergency meeting to review the decision to close Iraqi airports. Hammoudi has also called for the coordinating framework to examine the issue of “unjust participation” in the embargo against Iran.
