France Claims Military Support for Saudi Arabia is Strictly Defensive

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot claimed on Sunday that France‘s military support for Saudi Arabia, intended to help counter attacks from Yemeni forces, is “entirely defensive.” These remarks were made on the state television channel France 2.

Barrot’s comments come in the wake of French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement on Thursday regarding the deployment of French military personnel, radar units, and “defense systems” to Saudi Arabia. He was responding to a question about whether France’s aid signifies its participation as a partner in the Saudi conflict against Yemenis.

“Absolutely not… this action is entirely defensive,” Barrot stated. He further elaborated, “Since the start of the war (illegal aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime) against Iran, we have deployed military equipment and forces to protect our allies and partners.”
