Russia Warns US of Consequences for Gulf Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today expressing concern over U.S. instigation of tensions in the region. The statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry asserted that Moscow views any escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf as potentially carrying serious consequences for global energy security.

This development coincides with reports that Brent crude oil prices increased by $1.93, or 2 percent, to reach $96 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil also saw a rise of $1.44, or 1.7 percent, closing at $88.27 per barrel.

Reuters reported that the oil price surge occurred as the United States, continuing its confrontational approach aimed at creating tension, commenced a new series of attacks against Iran for the twelfth consecutive night. Simultaneously, Yemeni armed forces reportedly targeted oil tankers in the Red Sea.
