Iran Rejects Trump’s Ceasefire Offer, Citing U.S. Overreach: Report

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The New York Times has claimed that Iran rejected a ceasefire proposal put forth by U.S. President Donald Trump. The offer was reportedly transmitted to Tehran via the Prime Minister of Iraq, according to information published by Al-Mayadeen, citing Mehr News Agency.

Official representatives from both Iran and the United States have not yet issued a statement regarding The New York Times’ assertion. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, stated that Iran’s disagreement with the United States is not about the mediator, but rather about America’s ‘irrational, hegemonic, and expansionist’ approach. He further noted that this approach has been met with a strong stance from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Araghchi stressed that unless the U.S. understands that there is no alternative but to respect the Iranian nation and its interests, no progress can be made. He concluded that this matter does not require back-and-forth messages, but rather a reconsideration of U.S. policies.
