Dozens Dead After Boat Capsizes in Northwestern Nigeria

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, at least 50 people, many of them children, lost their lives after a passenger-laden boat capsized on Thursday in Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria. Eyewitnesses reported the tragic event, which occurred near Gaurarawa in the Goronyo Local Government Area.
Abdulqadir Yusuf, the regional director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority, confirmed the incident and stated that rescue and recovery operations are still underway. The boat was reportedly overloaded with passengers when it overturned.
One witness told Reuters that they saw approximately 50 bodies, many wrapped in traditional mats and cloths, at a local mosque courtyard in Gaurarawa. The victims were subsequently buried in the area.
