Iraqi President Emphasizes Sovereignty, Rejects Use of Territory Against Neighbors

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the President of Iraq, Nezar Amidi, emphasized during the Baghdad Conference that Iraq plays a pivotal role in the region, and all parties desire to prevent the country from being drawn into the ongoing regional conflicts, noting the severe consequences such wars have had on Iraq.

Amidi stated that the Strait of Hormuz affects not only Iraq but the entire world. He firmly declared that Iraq will not permit its territory to be exploited for aggression against any other nation. He also mentioned that certain accommodations have been made for Iraqi oil tanker vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

Regarding the issue of arms, the Iraqi President commented that the Iraqi constitution mandates the state’s exclusive control over weaponry, characterizing this as a matter of national sovereignty. He added that the religious authorities in Najaf also support this stance and that dialogue with armed groups is necessary to achieve this objective through a national solution.

Amidi further asserted that the region cannot achieve security and stability without Iraq first securing these elements. He noted that only two or three groups have yet to surrender their weapons. He clarified that no Iranian officials have sought to delay the process of state monopoly over arms, consistently referring to it as an Iraqi internal matter. The President urged the Popular Mobilization Forces and other armed groups to hand over their weapons and integrate into the security forces, stating that attacks originating from within Iraq are unjustifiable.
