UN Secretary-General Contradicts Trump on Strait of Hormuz Traffic
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres acknowledged that shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has practically halted, reporting that oil prices have risen by 33% since the initiation of hostilities against Iran.
Speaking at a press conference in New York, Guterres stated that the United Nations is prepared to explore a mechanism for resolving the situation through negotiation and respect for the sovereign rights of the involved nations in the region.
Guterres further cautioned about the ramifications of disruptions to fertilizer supply chains passing through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that ensuring safe passage for vessels is a humanitarian imperative. He noted that the cessation of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea is impacting global energy and essential goods supply chains, contributing to escalating worldwide prices.
This statement comes after U.S. President Donald Trump had previously asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remained open and under American control, with millions of barrels of oil being exported from the region.
