Ethiopia and Russia Expand AI Cooperation Under BRICS Framework
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ethiopia and Russia are in discussions to broaden their cooperation in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies as part of the BRICS development initiatives. This was reported by TV BRICS, citing data from Mehr News Agency.
The core areas of cooperation between the two nations in this sector are expected to encompass research and development, the cultivation of a skilled human workforce, and technology transfer, according to a report from FANA Media Company for Research and Development.
This strategic dialogue materialized during a visit by Yevgeny Ternikhin, the Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, to the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute. During his visit, Ternikhin familiarized himself with the institute’s research and development activities and its pivotal role in Ethiopia’s digital transformation journey.
Verqo Gachena, Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, presented an overview of the center’s efforts in deploying artificial intelligence and related technologies across priority social and economic sectors within the nation. He underscored research and development as critical drivers for technological advancement and digital transformation, emphasizing the importance of developing AI-driven solutions to address Ethiopia’s socio-economic needs.
Ambassador Ternikhin acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Russia and Ethiopia and expressed support for enhancing bilateral cooperation in research and development, human capital development, and technology transfer.
The report indicates that collaborative efforts in artificial intelligence are poised to bolster Ethiopia’s domestic capabilities and facilitate the training of specialized personnel. Furthermore, joint research initiatives and technology transfer between the two countries are anticipated to pave the way for the creation of technological solutions tailored to Ethiopia’s developmental priorities.
