Zionist Settlers Attempt to Torch Mosque in Nablus
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Zionist settlers on Tuesday morning attempted to torch the “Nur al-Din al-Zanki” mosque in the village of Bazariya, located northwest of Nablus, in a new act against Palestinian religious sites and sanctuaries. Local sources reported that the settlers, after trying to pry open the mosque’s doors, set fire to a room adjacent to it and had previously inscribed racist slogans at the mosque’s location.
The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs condemned the attack, emphasizing that targeting mosques and religious sites constitutes a dangerous and organized act of escalation aimed at provoking Muslim sentiments and desecrating holy sites. Sheikh Nasser Al-Salman, Director-General of Awqaf in Nablus, stated that the attempt to set fire to parts of the mosque and its desecration with racist slogans “reflects the extent of the continuous provocations against our holy sites.” He stressed that mosques, with their congregants and spiritual mission, will always remain vibrant.
Al-Salman added that these aggressions will never break the will of the Palestinian people or their commitment to their land and sacred sites. The Ministry of Awqaf also called on international and human rights institutions to assume their responsibility in ensuring the security of religious sites and to take action to halt the repeated attacks by settlers on Palestinian villages and towns.
The attempt to set fire to the Bazariya mosque occurs amidst a rise in settler attacks across the West Bank. These assaults include the burning of property, homes, and vehicles, assaults on Palestinians, and the targeting of mosques and agricultural lands, often carried out with the support and backing of occupation forces.
