China Urges Iran, US to Resume Nuclear Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing on Wednesday, urged Tehran and Washington to exercise restraint and resume serious negotiations by returning to the Islamabad agreement. Wang stated that Iran and the United States should re-establish the negotiation mechanism based on the agreements reached so far. He also called on all parties to take action to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible to maintain the stability of energy transfer and global supply chains. The Chinese Foreign Minister added that Beijing does not want regional tensions to further spread to Yemen and the Red Sea. Wang also said that recent developments have once again shown that the current security structure in the Middle East is insufficient and needs reform and strengthening. He added that China is prepared to play a constructive role in establishing peace, justice, and stability in the region, and Beijing’s stance on Iran remains steadfast and stable. This meeting took place a week before the anticipated summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Washington. Reuters reported that issues related to Iran and China’s financial relations with Tehran are also scheduled to be discussed during the leaders’ talks.
