Iraqi Parliament Deputy Speaker Denounces Foreign Interference in Leadership Selection

The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament has condemned external meddling by foreign powers, including the United States, in the selection process of Iraqi political leaders. He emphasized that such interventions in determining candidates for the prime ministerial post are unacceptable and warrant careful consideration of their consequences.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Adnan Fayhan, the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, has condemned the interference of foreign powers, including the United States, in the process of selecting Iraq’s political leaders. The Iraqi official expressed his opposition to any external intervention in determining candidates for the Iraqi premiership, without directly naming the U.S. or Donald Trump. He stressed that such interventions are completely unacceptable and their consequences must be carefully examined.

Fayhan pointed to domestic protests against Nouri al-Maliki’s candidacy for the prime minister post, noting that these protests have been accompanied by foreign interferences. This comes as the Construction Coalition, led by Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, has claimed that al-Maliki’s candidacy has faced opposition from key parties within the Coordination Framework. The coalition also announced that the protests against al-Maliki have compelled them to review their mechanisms and move away from personal interests.
