Trump Claims Partial Reopening of Strait of Hormuz, Hints at Attending Iran Deal Signing

U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz has been partially reopened and is expected to be fully accessible by Friday, while also suggesting he might attend the signing of a potential deal with Iran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz has been partially reopened and is slated for full reopening on Friday. This statement comes amidst ongoing tensions he attributes to Iran’s actions in the vital waterway, a stark contrast to his previous claims that navigation remained open. President Trump also reiterated his stance that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons.

Shifting from his previous objective of regime change in Iran, Trump expressed a desire for improved relations and a peaceful resolution, stating, “We hope our relations with Iran are good and we hope we don’t go back to war.” He indicated that a deal with Tehran might be within reach, aiming to overshadow perceived setbacks against the Islamic Republic. “We hope for a resolution to the events in Lebanon and must speak with Israel on this matter,” Trump added. He suggested that the United States would begin lifting sanctions against Iran if Tehran fulfills its obligations.

The U.S. President further disclosed that U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, J.D. Vance, is scheduled to attend the signing ceremony of a deal with Iran on Friday, and Trump himself may also be present. He indicated that the specifics of the Iran agreement would be released imminently. Additionally, Trump mentioned conversations with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, expressing hope for an end to the conflict. He suggested that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are prepared to reach an agreement to cease hostilities, and that the U.S. would focus on Ukraine after resolving issues with Iran.

Trump’s assertion regarding the Strait of Hormuz’s partial reopening emerges as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy has reportedly not issued transit permits for vessels in the strait for over 96 hours. Iran has previously indicated its readiness to guarantee shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz, provided a stable ceasefire and the end of hostilities are achieved, adhering to necessary security protocols and considerations.
