The minister ‍stressed that compulsory enlistment would only be implemented if volunteer recruitment​ fails to ⁣meet required targets. Germany,a NATO⁣ member,has been⁤ actively working to strengthen its military⁢ capabilities following Russia’s ⁤invasion of Ukraine in 2022 but continues ⁣to face challenges in attracting ⁢sufficient personnel.

Pistorius​ revealed germany requires an additional 100,000 troops ⁤in the coming years. The country abolished mandatory⁣ conscription in‍ 2011⁣ after nearly six decades‌ of implementation⁣ during peacetime.
