Germany Pushes to Reinstate Mandatory Military Service
germany may need to reinstate mandatory military service as early as next year due to personnel shortages, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced, according to a report by webangah News Agency.
The minister stressed that compulsory enlistment would only be implemented if volunteer recruitment fails to meet required targets. Germany,a NATO member,has been actively working to strengthen its military capabilities following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 but continues to face challenges in attracting sufficient personnel.
Pistorius revealed germany requires an additional 100,000 troops in the coming years. The country abolished mandatory conscription in 2011 after nearly six decades of implementation during peacetime.
